Month of Service Recap: Out&Allied, Rice-Jones

Posted by / in LGBTQ BUSINESS STUDENT BLOG / No comments yet

During the month of service, the Out&Allied club from Jones School of Business at Rice University partnered with The Montrose Center in Houston. The center serves the greater Houston LGBT community with many different programs – from counseling, to testing, to social events for all ages.

The club was able to stockpile some inventory for the HIV/AIDS program, making over 1000 harm-reduction kits which will be distributed by volunteers in high-risk areas in and surrounding Houston. The kits include condoms, cleaning supplies for people using or sharing needles, and information about the resources available at the center. To learn more about this organization, visit  https://www.montrosecenter.org/hub/.

Thank You, Out&Allied!

During the month of service, Pride@Kellogg members volunteered at the Center on Addison. This is the senior services arm of Center on Halstead and holds the title of being Chicago’s first LGBTQ senior center. Their programs and services for LGBTQ community members over the age of 55 allow for more than 150 seniors to participate in Senior programs to attend workshops, take classes, share a meal or make new friends.

The club visited the Center to help pass out meals to the LGBTQ elders living in the Center’s apartments and had conversations with them about their lives, their experiences in the Center, and their aspirations for the Chicago LGBTQ community. To learn more about Center on Halstead, visit
