THIS, OUR 20TH CELEBRATORY CONFERENCE, WILL CONTINUE TO FULFILL OUR MISSION AS AN ORGANIZATION WHICH IS TO EDUCATE, INSPIRE AND CONNECT LGBT BUSINESS STUDENTS AROUND THE GLOBE.

Laverne Cox speaks to attendees of the 2015 ROMBA Conference at the Marquee Dinner sponsored by The Boston Consulting Group

The Reaching Out LGBTQ MBA & Business Graduate Conference (otherwise known as ROMBA) is the world’s largest annual gathering of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) graduate business school students. Our organization is dedicated to promoting the acceptance and visibility of LGBT businesspeople and their interests in the workplace. The conference is much more than a career fair, but also provides a forum for prospective and current graduate business school students, and LGBTQ MBA professionals to build personal and professional networks, exchange information and promote cooperation within their respective areas of interest.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

The Community Outreach Initiative (COI), sponsored by McKinsey & Company, is a unique session at the Reaching Out MBA Conference where first-year MBA students and professional consultants will help local non-profit organizations address specific  challenges and opportunities. The COI is structured around teams, each consisting of a few MBA students, a professional consultant from McKinsey & Company, and non-profit representatives.

The challenges and opportunities, from marketing and fundraising to organizational capacity building and strategic planning, are unique to each non-profit. Using an original business case document, each team will work together to analyze the challenge or opportunity, explore solutions and risks, and formulate a detailed action plan.  Finally, each team will present its findings to the group. MBA students will leave this session with an understanding of non-profit management practice and satisfaction from giving back to the community, as well as new friendships and sharpened group case interview skills.

Most of Reaching Out's content, including the ROMBA Conference, is developed by LGBT MBA students and professionals just like you! If you are interested in being on the steering committees next year's ROMBA (students & professionals), Out Women in Business Conference (students & professionals), or Club Leadership Summit (students only) come to this session to hear from this year's leadership team.

Each year, the Reaching Out MBA brings together teams of students from top business schools across the country to compete for prizes and national recognition across of set of competitions. Students can step into a real-life scenario in the Case Competition (sponsored by Liberty Mutual) by analyzing a business case (pertaining to LGBTQ issues) based on strategic challenges faced by real organizations. Reaching Out MBA embarks on the adventure of finding the next big idea from an LGBT MBA & graduate entrepreneurs through the Startup Pitch Competition.  In the Mergers & Acquisitons Competition (sponsored by Credit Suisse), student teams will demonstrate their analytical, and presentation skills before a prestigious panel of judges hailing from investment banks
