Programs and Events

The Reaching Out MBA Conference offers an assortment of workshops, panels, and social events designed to help MBA students and professionals connect with one another and develop new skills for use in school, in the workplace, and in the community.

The goals of this year’s conference are:
  • To increase the scope of organizations that know of, take part in, and benefit from the Reaching Out conference
  • To improve conference participants’ prospects for success in business through education, mentorship and networking
  • To develop positive role models and leaders within the LGBT community.

We are working hard to ensure that the 2009 Reaching Out LGBT MBA Conference is the most successful and comprehensive conference in the organization’s history, so check back regularly for updates and additions. Unless otherwise noted, all events and speakers are tentative.

This Year’s Program Includes:

  • The Delta Airlines Diversity Town Hall - A new interactive forum featuring some of today's prominent LGBT leaders.
  • Career Panels - Reaching Out 2009 will feature an expanded list of career panels in which attendees can learn about the challenges and benefits of pursuing a career in a chosen field.
  • Emerging as Leaders Workshops and Panels - This series of events will feature topics such as corporate social responsibility, international LGBT challenges, and business implications of the current economic climate. Several workshops will provide opportunity for students to hone their skills at public speaking and case studies.
  • Career Management Center – Career management professionals will be available throughout the conference to help students with resumes, interviews, and overall career direction. The Center will also provide computer stations and printers for conducting career-related research and preparation.
  • The Bank of New York Mellon Mentorship Program– Expand your career network by taking part in the Reaching Out mentorship program. Reaching Out will match you with a professional from an industry and job function of your choice, and then provide opportunities for you to meet with that mentor during the conference.
  • NEW! Teaching Out - New this year is a component called Teaching Out to be held on the afternoon of Friday, October 16. This roundtable will provide the opportunity for faculty and senior staff to share best practices and discuss common concerns we face as LGBT educators and allies.
