Posted by / in LGBTQ BUSINESS STUDENT BLOG / No comments yet

The Reaching Out LGBT MBA Fellowship is a scholarship and leadership development program for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and active ally MBAs in full-time programs. Each Fellows receives at least $10,000 funding per academic year (or $20,000 total for his/her/their two years) in addition free lifetime access to all Reaching Out programming (including the ROMBA Conference), LGBT mentors, and a leadership summit exclusively for the Fellows.

This fall Reaching Out welcomed the second class of the Reaching Out LGBT MBA Fellows. These 44 fellows come from 30 top business schools and over the next month we’ll introduce each of them to you.

35 MBA programs will be part of the Fellowship for the 2016-2017 application cycle. To learn about the Fellowship and let schools know of your interest here.

MEET JAKE STALLARD (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Kenan-Flagler Business School)

Jake is a member of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Class of 2018. He received his BA from University of Florida in Elementary Education. He went on to receive his M.Ed. in Special Education with a focus on High-Incidence Disabilities from Vanderbilt University. Prior to enrolling in business school, Jake performed a variety of roles in the field of education. In the realm of behavior disorders, he worked as both an in-home therapist and as a teacher for students with severe behavioral deficits. In service of those with learning disabilities, Jake worked as a nonprofit program facilitator for adults lacking literacy skills, both native English speakers and adults for whom English is a second language. Finally, he worked as an SAT/ACT tutor for students struggling with test-taking skills and content deficits. His favorite pastimes are reading Car and Driver and getting out on the water, whether that’s paddling a kayak or floating in the waves.

What made you consider business school?
Business school presents an incredible opportunity to open new professional doors, increase my network, and to realign my passion with the work I will do.

What are you most excited about in terms of your time in business school?
I am most excited about being back in the university setting and learning a whole new set of skills surrounded by so many smart, passionate professionals.

Who are some leaders (in business, in the LGBT community, in society) that most inspire you?
Anderson Cooper inspires me with the compassion he displays in his reporting. He seems to bring himself to his job, which is something I strive to do.

What’s one thing everyone should know about you?
I’m with her.
