The Reaching Out LGBT MBA Fellowship is a scholarship and leadership development program for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and active ally MBAs in full-time programs. Each Fellows receives at least $10,000 funding per academic year (or $20,000 total for his/her/their two years) in addition free access to all Reaching Out programming (including the ROMBA Conference), LGBTQ mentors, digital programming, and a leadership summit exclusively for the Fellows. Since the inception of the ROMBA Fellowship 129 students have received over US$6.2M in scholarship support from participating schools.
This fall Reaching Out welcomed the third class of the ROMBA Fellows. These 56 fellows come from 35 top business schools and over the next month we’ll introduce each of them to you.

MEET KANG LIU (MIT, SLOAN SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT)
Kang Liu is an MBA candidate at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He has extensive experience in real estate, investment, and finance across a number of global markets. Prior to business school, Kang worked at Goodman Group in its investment management division. Based in Hong Kong, he specialized in China real estate investments and managed relationships with the company’s key fund investors. Prior to that, Kang was as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley, where he advised financial sponsors, corporations, and high net worth individuals on strategic and financing alternatives by offering expertise across mergers and acquisitions, equity, debt, and derivatives products. Born and raised in Taiwan, Kang holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. Outside of work, Kang enjoys staying active with hiking, spinning, and running and loves everything about food.
What made you consider business school?
Being an exercise fanatic, I want to launch my own apparel company, focusing on functional activewear for men. At business school, I will be able to acquire business fundamentals and develop into a successful entrepreneur.
What are you most excited about in terms of your time in business school?
I am excited to meet new people from various professional and personal backgrounds and learn from their experiences. I am also excited to meet aspiring entrepreneurs who would motivate and inspire me to launch my own business.
Who are some of the leaders (in the LGBTQ community, in business, or in society) that most inspire you?
Warren Buffet, Bill Gates.
What’s one thing everyone should know about you?
I have been a yoga instructor since 2009 and has taught different classes in the United States, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
