What is Out Women in Business (formerly Queer Women in Business)?

On average less than 30% of attendees at LGBT business events and of LGBT MBAs in Business Schools are LBT women.  We want to change that.

Out Women in Business (OWIB) is a focused effort to bring the lesbian, bisexual and transgender community together to form a strong, visible network of professionals that will inspire future generations of LBT women to enter business professions.

Out Women in Business offers programming, geared for young to mid-career professionals as well as students, throughout the year in the form of summits (one in the Spring in NYC, one in the fall attached to the ROMBA Conference), regional networking events, online networking and speakers series.

Why was OWIB Created?

In October 2014, Reaching Out held an afternoon of content dedicated specifically to lesbian, bisexual and transgender graduate students as part of the greater Reaching Out LGBT MBA & Business Graduate Conference (otherwise known as ROMBA). Over 130 lesbian, bisexual, and transgender advance degree students and professionals attended those sessions - and they told us they wanted more!

Throughout the day of content a clear need was expressed both by MBA students, but also mid-career professionals to create a space for lesbian, bisexual and transgender professional women in business and those LBT students aspiring to go into business became evident - and with that Queer Women in Business was created.

The first formal programming for Queer Women in Business was the 2015 Queer Women in Business (QWIB) NYC Summit held on March 7th at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway with 192 registrants.

Programming in the form of networking events, summits, online workshops and more will follow the inaugural Queer Women in Business NYC Summit.
