Tentative Agenda for the Queer Women in Business Summit
March 7th, 2015

9:00-9:45AM         Opening Keynote Speakers (including Christie Smith, Managing Principal at Deloitte)

9:45-10:45AM       Networking Interactive Session: Circle, Share and Inspire

What are you passionate about? What do you need help with? This session breaks up attendees into small groups and gives the participants the floor for 3-5  minutes to talk about anything they want and take questions. Participants could use this time to pitch an idea and get feedback, get advice on entering a career, or just share a topic they find really important. Practice your public speaking skills and get to know ROMBA participants in a more meaningful way.

11:00-11:45AM       Facilitated Panel: Career Arc

This session will dive into the career paths and opportunities for LBT women at early, mid and late career stages across multiple industries including finance, consulting and social impact.

12:00-1:15PM         Networking Lunch: Industry Match

Whether you are  exploring your options, looking to foster mentor/mentee relationships within your current industry, or just looking to expand your own professional networking, industry match will give you the opportunity to interact with women in your field.

1:30-2:15PM           Workshop: Building Stronger Communication & Negotiation Skills

We’ve all heard it before. Women struggle to demand what they want or deserve. Join this session to learn how to improve your negotiation skills and be more assertive during meetings.

2:30-3:30PM           Panel Session: Intersectionality in the LBT Community

This session will take a look at how diverse queer women can be and the various issues that affect those within our community who have intersectionalities with the trans community, international communities, and other diversity segment.

3:30-4:30PM           TED-style 10 Min Speakers

Hear from six speakers who will present on topics such as “Community Building” “Finding Your Authentic Voice” and “Being an LBT Woman in the Global Setting” that you can bring back to your workplace or campus.

4:30-5:30PM           Company Networking Opportunity

This is an opportunity to network with attendees from companies participating in the Queer Women in Business Summit as well as speak with representatives from our sponsor companies at their designated tables.

5:30-7:00PM           Optional Networking Reception Off-Site

Queer Women in Business Speaker: Christie Smith

We are thrilled to announce that Christie SmithManaging Principal, Deloitte University Leadership Center for Inclusion, as the first speaker for the 2015 Queer Women in Business Summit. As a senior out LBT leader frequently listed as a “Women in Watch” by the Diversity Journal and an Inclusion speaker at TEDx BeaconStreet, Christie will be part of an inspired start to a day of great content.  Learn more about Christie below!

Content at the Queer Women in Business Summit will be applicable to lesbian, bisexual, and transgender women in all phases of their careers. Attendees can look forward to speeches from LBT business leaders like Christie Smith, panels exploring issues at specific career stages and issues around intersectionality within the LBT community, a series of inspirational TED-style talks, a workshop around building stronger communication skills, and structured interactive breakouts that designed to build personal networks and foster organic mentor/mentee relationships in their industries.

Christie is the Managing Principal for Consulting in the west region of the United States. Her responsibilities include markets, clients, talent and community for more than 2,400 consulting practitioners and more than 250 Principals and Directors. She is also a Lead Consulting Partner and Advisory Partner on several of Deloitte’s largest clients.

With more than 25 years of experience, Christie has a passion for serving clients and bringing innovative and effective solutions to their most important business, market and talent issues. Christie focuses her work with clients on aligning business strategy with the requirements of organizational structure, talent, leadership development and global workforce planning.

In addition to her management and client responsibilities Christie leads the Deloitte University Leadership Centers for Inclusion and Community Impact. Both roles provide a platform for developing solutions with our people, clients, academics and non-profits about how the business world can fundamentally redefine how it approaches issues including inclusion, transitioning veterans, and education.

Because of Christie’s varied accomplishments and commitment to Inclusion she has been identified by Diversity Journal as a 2013 “Woman to Watch”. In addition, she has been recognized in 2012, 2013 & 2014 as one of San Francisco’s Most Influential Women by the Business Times.

She is a frequent lecturer and author on topics including corporate values, leadership, culture, inclusion, and talent. Her work has been featured in Fortune, Harvard Business Review, The New York Times, Forbes, Fast Company and on CNN.

Christie is a Board member at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Advisory Council for New America’s Caregivers & Breadwinners.

Christie has a MSW from Rutgers University, and a Ph.D. in Social Work/IO Psychology from New York University.

Liberty Mutual Announced as ‘Queer Women in Business Summit’ Title Sponsor

We are thrilled to announce that Liberty Mutual, a Reaching Out partner since 2012, will be the title sponsor for the upcoming ‘Queer Women in Business Summit‘ on March 7th in New York City.

The Queer Women in Business Summit is designed for all LBT women in business and their allies – regardless of whether they have an MBA or not.  The summit will be a great opportunity to hear from LBT leaders, network across industries, and bring new ideas to your company or school to better support LBT women.
