Each year the ROMBA Conference hosts a variety of competitions for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender & queer (LGBTQ) MBA & Graduate community to showcase its business acumen and compete for cash awards. As an added bonus many schools subsidize student's registration or travel if they compete in a competition!
Please note the Case Competition & Mergers & Acquisitions Competition are open to current students only, while the Startup Pitch Competition is open to both students and alumni.
CASE COMPETITION (SPONSORED BY LIBERTY MUTUAL)

The ROMBA Case Competition (sponsored by Liberty Mutual) offers LGBTQ MBA & graduate students an exciting opportunity to formulate strategic recommendations to a given problem and win up to $5,000 in the process. Participants will also have a chance to present and discuss their ideas with a panel of judges from leading consulting firms & corporate strategy offices, and interact with them more informally during a private breakfast. Many participants of years past have successfully pursued strategy consulting positions afterwards, aided by the feedback they received and connections they made during the Case Competition.
All participants must be currently enrolled students in an MBA or other graduate program at the time of competition
All participants must be registered LGBTQ or active ally MBA or graduate student attendees of the 2018 ROMBA Conference
Teams must consist of 3-4 current LGBTQ MBA or graduate students.
Teammates do not have to attend the same university or MBA program
All members of the team must be officially registered (e.g. with a student access code) to attend the ROMBA Conference.
All registered teams will present in a preliminary round; the top 4 scoring teams will advance to a final round and present to a larger group of judges.
No prior consulting experience is necessary
All registered teams will receive the case question and materials electronically on or by September 18, 2019 and will have until midnight CT on October 4, 2019 to submit their presentation.
MERGERS & AQUISITIONS COMPETITION (SPONSORED BY CREDIT SUISSE)

The M&A Case Competition (sponsored by Credit Suisse) provides LGBTQ MBA & Graduate students with the opportunity to experience the role of investment bankers in a mergers & acquisition scenario. Entrants will demonstrate their analytical, and presentation skills before a panel of judges hailing from investment banking. Initial presentations will be reviewed remotely and followed by an in-person final showdown of teams during the ROMBA Conference. Join us as these LGBTQ MBAs showcase their analysis of the case.
Students can enter the competition individually or with a team of up to 4 other MBAs or advanced degree students.
All entrants must be current LGBTQ MBA or graduate students.
All member of the team must be officially registered (e.g. with a student access code) to attend the ROMBA Conference.
The competition may be done as an individual or as a team with up to 4 members.
STARTUP PITCH COMPETITION (IN PARTNERSHIP WITH STARTOUT)

Reaching Out MBA is excited to work with our partners at StartOut for the 8th annual ROMBA Startup Pitch Competition. Now in its seventh year, the contest offers $5,000 scholarship to the team with the most promising new venture idea, as judged by a panel of leading investors and entrepreneurs.
To pitch, entrants are required to submit a 5-10 slide pitch deck with you application. Your startup may be actual or fictitious, we will be judging your “startup" based on its merits and the quality of your presentation and its delivery. If your “startup” is fictitious, please present it as a pitch for funding of your initial rollout (MVP, etc) but your long term strategy and market placement should be clear.
Judges will be actual VCs and entrepreneurs from our partners at StartOut. You will be judged on a number of items, including but not limited to: viability, defensibility, differentiation, novelty, and scale. At least one member of your team must be registered and attending 2019 ROMBA Conference as a LGBTQ MBA or related graduate student or alumnus.
This competition is open to LGBTQ MBA/graduate alumni!
At least one member of the pitch must be registered to attend the ROMBA Conference as a current or LGBTQ MBA or related graduate alumni.
To be eligible, applicants must have registered for the 2018 ROMBA Conference and be available to present their idea at the event, if chosen as a finalist, on October 12, 2019.
