I am Donte Barker and I am a J.D. and MBA candidate at Willamette University. Originally from Atlanta, GA, I received Bachelors of Arts in both Criminology and Geography from Arkansas State University. I am an AmeriCorps alumni; I served a year as a volunteer specialist for the city of Jonesboro, AR. My AmeriCorps experience taught me humility and a joy for service to people. It also opened my mind with regards to my life goals, and has led me to be open to any experience that comes my way.
What made you consider business school?
The knowledge and skills that I can pick up while in business school will help position me so that I can be successful. Business school will teach me different things than law school and I think that will benefit me in the long run.
What are you most excited about in terms of your time in business school?
I am most excited about the things that I will be able to learn. If I can master some business skills, then I will be able to both use and pass on those same skills to those who need it.
Who are some leaders (in the LGBT community, in business, or in society) that most inspire you?
Megan Rapinoe and Thurgood Marshall are two of my inspirations. I think that both have/had a confidence and aura about them that has allowed them to achieve everything they've wanted to achieve. The tenacity they have shown and things they have done expresses a confidence I can only hope to have one day.
What's one thing everyone should know about you?
I'm an adventurer, I enjoy doing and experiencing new things.
