Meet Our Class of 2018 Fellows: Mattan Mansoor

Harvard Business School

Mattan is part of Harvard Business School’s MBA class of 2020. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mattan developed an appreciation for diversity, multiculturalism, and travel from an early age. In pursuit of his life-long passion for aviation, Mattan completed internships in Network Planning (route development and strategy) at both Southwest and United Airlines during his time at U.C. Berkeley. Since graduating, Mattan has gained deep commercial aviation experience through consulting and industry roles.

While working at L.E.K. Consulting’s Boston office, Mattan contributed to a variety of air transportation strategy engagements. These projects included developing a premium lounge for a major U.S. airport, modeling network synergies between two Latin American airlines, and designing an ancillary revenue strategy for a major Middle Eastern carrier. Mattan also contributed to L.E.K.’s thought leadership about global airline alliance strategy.

After L.E.K., Mattan joined Delta Air Lines’ Pricing Strategy group in Atlanta and was shortly thereafter selected for an expatriate position on Delta’s Network Strategy & Competitive Analysis based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In this group, Mattan helped optimize Delta’s transatlantic route network in close cooperation with joint venture partners Air France-KLM, Alitalia, and Virgin Atlantic.

Mattan had the privilege of representing Delta and its partners at Pride festivals in London, Atlanta, and Amsterdam and is proud to work for an airline that supports the LGBT community and helps connect people from all over the world. Outside of work, Mattan enjoys traveling, playing tennis and volleyball, and cooking.

What made you consider business school?

Business school presents a rare opportunity to bring together knowledgeable and driven members of the global business community to learn from and connect with each other. There is perhaps no better environment to enrich one’s global perspective, expand one’s horizons, and improve one’s approach to business.

What are you most excited about in terms of your time in business school?

The fact that my classmates will have a rich variety of interests, passions, and experiences is thrilling. I very much look forward to learning about the passions that drive my classmates as well as sharing mine.

Who are some leaders (in the LGBT community, in business, or in society) that most inspire you?

I highly admire Bill & Melinda Gates for their immense generosity and commitment to improving global healthcare.

What's one thing everyone should know about you?

As an avid plane geek, I can often be found identifying planes in the sky and challenging others to guess the airline, plane type, and destination!
